Kenyan couple commit suicide on the same day

A Kenyan couple have shocked their family and friends by committing suicide on the same day, leaving behind a suicide note.

The residents of Githurai 44 area in Nairobi, Kenya, were surprised to find out that a woman identified as Esther Muthoni and her husband Simon Maina Kiarie, had committed suicide inside their house.

According to reports, the couple had written suicide notes, asking to be buried on the same day, before hanging themselves on Tuesday, November 22

Esther was said to have died first, before her husband followed several hours later. Simon had reportedly called his brother to inform him of his wife’s death just before his own body was found hanging beside hers.

The OCPD in charge of Kiambu police station, Duncan Ngutu, said:

“After calling his brother he committed suicide, by the time his brother arrived at the house, he found his body hanging next to that of the wife.”

Neighbours however doubt Esther could have killed herself, as they said the couple were always fighting and chances are Simon could have killed her first before hanging himself.
